The story
On the bay side of the Galveston Island State Park in Texas, you can see these Great Blue Herons in the morning sun hunting for their breakfast.. The black crown of their head and the long thin black plume on top add to their elegance. This bird is made of lots of layers of paper! I used patterned gray papers, cut into small strips to make each little feather. The background is more chunky and colorful then some of my other all-paper pieces, but I like the mix of these soft Gulf Coast colors at sunrise. The bright palms sway in the breeze and I wanted them to echo the colors and motion of the sky to blend into a patchwork of pattern and color.
