The story
Once used on the cover of Galveston Monthly's Magazine, this is a typical beach cottage you often find on stilts close to the ocean. They remind me of little people, with their unique personalities standing at attention to the ocean before them. I made this piece while living on the west end of Galveston Island. The majority of the homes there are vacation homes, so owners tend to be more loose and playful with their colors. The Getaway was made entirely out of countless layers of paper. The house itself contains paper with text where you can find small words that may spark your imagination or hint at the stories that go on in the lives of the families or friends who visit The Getaway. I imagine the fun adventures that happen there, with LOVE at the center of it!
