"Sunny Days" collage — a curling turquoise wave rolls toward a beach of striped paper umbrellas, palms, cottages and sailboats
Sunny Days

Happiness comes in waves!

...made even better by "Sunny Days."

Oh, those long gorgeous days at the beach are the best! The ones where you're there long enough to totally wind down, feel the soft wind and water and listen to the waves and birds. On these days, under the warmth of the sun, you can freely experience your connection with nature. It feels like taking a deep breath, visually and mentally, because the landscape is so simple. There's the scale of the sky and the strength of the horizon that offer an openness we don't often encounter.

For many years, at the center of my artist statements, has always been a desire to express this experience. I try to hold on to this feeling, and bring it back with me into the studio. Although my work has evolved to encompass more elements of coastal life, in "Sunny Days" I've returned to my roots! My hope is to bring this spirit to life in this joyful scene, through collaging small pieces of all kinds of paper, piece by piece, layer by layer, and offer it to you!

Detail of striped paper beach umbrellas in "Sunny Days," a hand-lettered quote strip winding through the sand layers
Cut-paper sailboats with striped, chevron and polka-dot sails on layered blue water, a sun and red cottage beyond
Beach cottages snipped from newsprint and patterned papers under paper palms — a corner of "Sunny Days" mid-build
