The story

I’ve wanted to create a big wave for SO long, and here it is.. the Big Kahuna! What attracted me to making this is all the movement a wave offers. I was hoping to express the energy and power of the ocean through this big wave roaring as it breaks and crashes back down into the sea. It's crest is filled with intricately cut little pieces of paper, and as it's rolling over has wild sprawling white papers. Its frothy bubbles and sea foam are adorned with small pearls. The water has a myriad of papers layered in all shades of blue and if you look closely you’ll find some inspiring words, Beach Boys lyrics, and even surfers out catching waves! When I was thinking about a title, Steve yelled out "Big Kahuna!" and we both laughed. I googled it to learn of its multiple meanings, mostly born of Hawaiian culture. I also found out its surfer slang for a huge wave, so it was a perfect fit. Thanks Steve! This piece is framed in a gorgeous Larson Juhl silver float frame.
