Love is Real

The story

I made this series when I was studying at the Houston Fine Arts Museum’s Glassell School. This piece, along with Shine the Heart and Waking Light, are about exploring spiritual evolution and using nature as a vehicle to express pathways to the Divine. Nature is a great teacher, silently showing us we are loved, nurtured, and illuminated, and that beauty awaits and unfolds in its own season. The Sun is a common subject in these pieces, and I recognize the light being great sustenance both physically and spiritually. A mother’s protection, innate knowledge of nest building, and providing for her young are a metaphor for God’s love and trusting the power of it, to give us what we need exactly when we need it. Making this series was about reminding myself that I am a spiritual being having a human experience, and not the other way around! Love is also a favorite theme running throughout these pieces, and who doesn’t need love? “Love is all you need!”
