The story
I made this series when I was studying at the Houston Fine Arts Museum’s Glassell School. This piece, along with Love is Real and Shine the Heart, are about exploring spiritual evolution and using nature as a vehicle to express pathways to the Divine. Nature is a great teacher, silently showing us that we are loved, nurtured, and illuminated, and that beauty awaits and unfolds in its own season. The Sun is a common subject in these pieces, and I recognize the light being great sustenance both physically and spiritually. I wanted this piece to illustrate what those moments of awakening feel like.That light filling us with joy and sweetness of the Divine, is nearly impossible to capture in a piece of art. In the process of creating these, I had a wonderful feeling of connection and I hope it translates off the canvas for you as well. Making this series was about reminding myself that I am a spiritual being having a human experience, and not the other way around!
